Speck (2009) – Russell Richards

Description: “Speck” should be recognizable by those that have weathered any serious hardship or depression. It’s different for me; more a conceptual piece, than one rendered in my usual style. (Photograph by Stacey Evans.)

BIO:  Russell U. Richards is an artist with a studio at the McGuffey Art Center in Charlottesville. He has been drawing, painting, and making sculpture since he was three years old, finally deciding to become a full-time artist at age 26. Russell’s struggle with ulcerative colitis, and his fight to regain health, became the subject of his art book and memoir The Arts and Innards of Russell U. Richards! Recently Russell has turned his attention to filmmaking. His prints and paintings will be featured in a solo exhibition at Taubman Museum in Roanoke from November through January.
